Year to date in 2026, Ethereum ETFs have taken in $1.5 billion in net inflows, more than the $985 million for Bitcoin ETFs. Still, total BTC fund assets are about 6 times those of ETH funds.

A notable stat this weekend: year to date in 2026, US spot Ethereum ETFs have attracted more net inflows than Bitcoin ETFs. But looking at the bigger picture, Bitcoin is still the dominant "heavyweight" in institutional flows.
Key numbers
- Net inflows year to date in 2026: Ethereum ETFs $1.5 billion, Bitcoin ETFs $985 million.
- Total assets under management: Bitcoin ETFs about $109 billion, Ethereum ETFs about $18 billion.
- In Q3 2026 alone, Bitcoin ETFs took in $6.3 billion in net inflows, after net outflows of about $5 billion in the first half. In other words, strong inflows into Bitcoin only returned in July.
Why are Ethereum ETFs leading this year?
- Bitcoin ETFs had a first half with heavy outflows, so despite strong Q3 inflows, the full-year figure is still low.
- Inflows into Ethereum ETFs have been steadier, with no major net outflow period like Bitcoin's.
The size gap is still very large
- Since launch, Bitcoin ETFs (from January 2024) have taken in a total of $57.6 billion in net inflows, versus about $13.8 billion for Ethereum ETFs (from July 2024). That is a gap of nearly $44 billion.
- At the current pace, it would take more than 80 years for Ethereum ETFs to catch up with the money that has flowed into Bitcoin ETFs.
- Much of the asset gap also comes from Bitcoin's price gains: assets in BTC funds have appreciated by about $52 billion, versus only about $4 billion for ETH funds.
- At the mid-January 2026 peak, Bitcoin funds reached $128 billion and Ethereum funds $21 billion. Both are now about 15% below their peaks.
How should investors read this?
- ETF flows are an indicator of institutional investor demand, but they are better viewed over weeks and months rather than a few days.
- Steady inflows into ETH are a positive sign, but Bitcoin remains the main asset large funds choose when entering crypto.
