BTC traded sideways around $84,700 on Oct 4. Resistance sits at $86,000 with a breakout zone at $87,000–88,000; key support is $82,000–82,500. Derivatives and ETF flows currently favor buyers.

Bitcoin entered the first weekend of October in consolidation: price held around $84,700 on the morning of Oct 4 (GMT+7), failing to clear the $86,000–88,000 resistance zone but also not losing the $84,000 level. Below are the key price levels and notable signals.
Quick summary
- Current price: about $84,700–84,800.
- Resistance: $86,000 (near), $87,000–88,000 (breakout zone), $90,000 (psychological).
- Support: $83,800–84,000 (near), $82,000–82,500 (key), $74,000–78,000 (broad demand zone).
- Derivatives and ETF flows are leaning toward buyers, but price has been sold down several times around $86,000–88,000.
The technical picture
- Daily RSI around 63.9 (Oct 3): bullish momentum but not yet overbought. The 4-hour RSI is around 50, showing price is balanced in the short term.
- The 50-day moving average (about $78,300) is above the 200-day (about $75,300): the medium-term trend remains positive.
- Weak point: BTC failed to hold above $87,000 and has repeatedly met selling pressure in the $86,000–88,000 zone. This is sideways consolidation, not yet confirmation of a continued uptrend.
What are the flows saying?
- Bitcoin's 90-day Futures Taker CVD has turned positive again: aggressive buyers in the derivatives market are regaining the upper hand.
- US spot Bitcoin ETFs took in about $102.7 million in net inflows on Oct 1.
- The BTC/gold ratio ended Q3 up 37%, its strongest quarterly gain since Q4 2024.
- You can see which side is being liquidated in real time on the Crypto Liquidations page and check the exchange Long/Short ratio.
Two scenarios for next week
- Breakout: a daily close above $88,000 would open the way to $90,000, and further to the $95,000–96,000 zone. In that case, watch for cascading Short liquidations.
- Rejection at resistance: if $83,800 breaks, price could pull back to $82,000–82,500. Lose that zone, and the next target is the $74,000–78,000 demand zone, which lines up with the long-term moving averages.
Macro factors to keep in mind
The US September jobs report was very weak (just 29,000 jobs added), reducing the likelihood of a Fed rate hike in October. The next two major milestones are CPI on Oct 14 and the Fed meeting on Oct 27–28. See details in The Fed after a weak Nonfarm report and the Economic Calendar.
